The best time to visit Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has a dry continental climate: hot summers, cold winters, and two long, comfortable seasons in between.
Spring: April to early June
Spring is one of the two best times to travel. Days are warm, the countryside is green, and the long drives between the cities are pleasant. Navruz, the spring new year on 21 March, is celebrated across the country. Spring is also high season — book hotels, trains and transfers early.
Autumn: September to October
Autumn is the other peak season: warm days, cooler evenings, and bazaars full of melons, grapes and pomegranates. Like spring, it gets busy — the Afrosiyob train often sells out on popular dates.
Summer: June to August
Summer is very hot, especially in the desert cities of Bukhara and Khiva, where afternoon temperatures often pass 40 °C. If you travel in summer, sightsee early in the morning and in the evening, and rest in the afternoon. An air-conditioned car for the long legs makes a real difference.
Winter: November to March
Winters are cold and can bring snow, especially in Tashkent and on the mountain road to the Fergana Valley. The sights are quiet and hotels are cheaper. Allow extra time on the Kamchik Pass in winter weather.
Plan around the season
In spring and autumn, book your transfers early alongside your hotels. In summer, choose early departures for the long desert legs, such as Bukhara to Khiva (6–7 hours).
