The State Museum of Arts of Karakalpakstan in Nukus — known as the Savitsky Museum — holds one of the world's largest collections of Russian avant-garde art, gathered by Igor Savitsky when such art was banned, alongside Karakalpak jewellery, textiles and archaeology.
