The Khiva to Shavat border crossing (to Dashoguz) journey

The drive from Khiva to the Shavat border crossing takes about 1 hour. Your driver drops you at the Uzbek checkpoint; you cross on foot and continue to Dashoguz by local transport or a car arranged on the other side.

Shavat is the crossing between Khorezm and Dashoguz in northern Turkmenistan, often used by travellers going on to Konye-Urgench or Ashgabat. Turkmenistan requires a visa or letter of invitation; arrange it before you travel.
