The Samarkand to Jartepa border crossing (to Penjikent) journey

The drive from Samarkand to the Jartepa border crossing takes about 1 hour. Your driver drops you at the Uzbek checkpoint; you cross on foot and continue to Penjikent by local transport or a car arranged on the other side.

Jartepa is the crossing for Penjikent and the Fann Mountains. It is the closest border crossing to Samarkand, about 40 km east of the city.
