Getting to and around Samarkand
Samarkand sits about 300 km southwest of Tashkent, roughly a 4–4.5 hour drive along the M39 highway. Most travellers arrive either by private transfer, by the Afrosiyob high-speed train, or by a short domestic flight, then need a driver waiting at the station or airport to reach their hotel near the Registan.
We also arrange onward private transfers from Samarkand to Bukhara (around 3.5–4 hours by road) or Shakhrisabz (about 1.5–2 hours through the mountain pass), so you can see the Registan, Gur-e-Amir and Bibi-Khanym Mosque and then continue your route the same day.
