The Bukhara to Alat border crossing (to Turkmenabat) journey

The drive from Bukhara to the Alat border crossing takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Your driver drops you at the Uzbek checkpoint; you cross on foot and continue to Turkmenabat by local transport or a car arranged on the other side.

Alat faces the Turkmen checkpoint at Farap, on the road to Turkmenabat. Turkmenistan requires a visa or letter of invitation; arrange it before you travel.
