Bukhara's railway station is in the town of Kagan, about 15 km south-east of the historic centre. The drive to the old town around Lyab-i Hauz takes 20 to 30 minutes.
Many first-time visitors don't expect the station to be outside the city. A pre-booked transfer means you don't need to find a taxi or agree a fare on the platform.
Many hotels are in the pedestrian streets of the old town, so you may be dropped at the nearest point a car can reach, a short walk from the door.
